Accessibility Idea: Trackball Module Instead of Thumbstick

Hi everyone,

I’d like to suggest an alternative thumb module for the Azeron Keypad: replacing the analog thumbstick with a small trackball (like the ones used in thumb-trackball mice).

Why I think this would help:

  • I only have use of one arm, so I rely heavily on devices like Azeron for gaming.
  • A trackball would act as a true mouse HID input → precise aiming on PC.
  • No drift or deadzones compared to analog sticks.
  • Unlimited spin/flicks for quick turns (great for FPS).
  • Could be offered as an alternative module for those who want it, not replacing the standard stick.

For context: I’ve used a KeyMouse.com for a couple of years after my incident, and it works fantastic as a one-handed solution. It’s not quite like before, but it gave me real freedom in gaming. Sadly, the company behind KeyMouse went bankrupt, and there’s now a gap in the market for this kind of accessibility hardware. I think Azeron could fill that gap by offering a trackball module option.

Has anyone experimented with this kind of mod? And @devs, would this be possible on the current hardware/firmware?

Would love to hear your thoughts!

Thanks for the reply!

Yeah, I’ve actually seen that Cyborg trackball mod before — looks really cool. I didn’t realize someone was actually selling it though, that’s awesome.

I’ve already ordered a Cyro, so I’m excited to see how it feels for one-handed gaming. But honestly, a trackball thumb module on the regular Azeron keypads would be amazing — same precision as a mouse, but still part of the keypad layout.

Really appreciate you taking the time to reply and link those — this kind of stuff makes a huge difference for people like me who game with one hand. 🙏

Great idea, trackball would help improve accuracy and support one handed players much better!

The idea of integrating a trackball into the thumb module on standard keyboards is truly a "holy grail" that many Azeron users have been waiting for. The combination of trackball precision and a flexible keypress system would be a major step forward for accessibility.

Have hours of enjoyable gaming with your new device!

I’m writing to suggest a trackball module for the Azeron. As a gamer with the use of only one arm, I rely on your hardware to stay in the game. Adding a trackball would provide a true mouse HID input for precise aiming—eliminating the drift and deadzones inherent to analog sticks.

why not Azeron Cyro ?

why not Azeron Cyro ?
Mouse aren't as confortable than trackball for long session, probably even more for people with only one arms. It is way more tiring and can generate some pain point in the arm. So when you have to use this periph for nearly all day (work and leasure), even vertical mouse doesn't do the trick.

Great idea for accessibility, offering precise control and independence, and a trackball module could truly expand gaming options for one-handed users.
